More capacity for ice hockey training

ETC Crimmitschau’s main hall could no longer offer sufficient capacity for all of the club’s teams, and this was especially true for the more than 300 girls and boys from the junior section. Therefore, Ice-World took on the construction of the new “Canada Life Kids Arena”.
On June 25, 2020, around 50 representatives from politics, sponsors and supporters, the construction companies, the press and representatives of Crimmitschau as an ice hockey location took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the training ice rink in the presence of Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer.

This should be 600 m² (20 x 30 m) after completion of the construction work, which corresponds to one third of a normal ice hockey playing surface with 1,800 m² (30 x 60 m). For the permanent ice rink in concrete, Ice-World created a classic concrete cold layer. Ice-World was also responsible for the commissioning of the ice rink.

Corresponding with the requirements of the client this rink was built with a PE piping system in concrete. In summer the rink can be used for roller skating and roller hockey.

  • Everything from a single source: permanent ice rink, ice hockey rink, lightweight hall, refrigeration technology, ice processing machines.
  • Refrigeration is controlled by special software.
  • Operation is enormously energy-saving and climate-friendly.
  • Budget price.

Operation is enormously energy-saving

Operation of the ice rink is enormously energy-saving and is controlled by special software developed by the company. Normal operation of the technology consumes only 280 kilowatt hours of electricity or less per day. Ice-World’s other tasks included design, assembly, the 1,125 m² lightweight hall and the ice-making machines.

Construction work on the hall at Sahnpark Crimmitschau has progressed step by step since June 2020. First, the concrete surface, the boards and the interior finishing were tackled. Ice-World equipped the 1.10 m high training boards with a 2.50 m high puck protection net. The design of the exterior facades was adapted to the club colors in white and red. The electric ice resurfacing machine also received a special paint job in the club-typical colors.

Total construction time only 2 ½ months

After the preparation of civil engineering works and the connections for fresh water and waste water, the hall construction could start on October 26. Two weeks later, this was already completed. This was followed in November and December by the laying of the cold pipes, the pouring of the concrete slab and the erection of the gangs.

Even though the construction work progressed quickly, the rink could not open in January 2021 as originally planned. The Corona pandemic postponed the first training of about 20 young professionals until March 1, 2021, but in the meantime, everyone from beginners (2-4 years old) to young professionals (12-14 years old) can train in smaller groups to “get closer to the dream of becoming a professional tomorrow.” At the same time, they tested the new training hall for the first time.
