Ice Rink Consultancy & Engineering Services

Building an ice rink is a complex process, with many technical, financial and operational factors to consider. Ice-World supports developers, architects and main contractors as a specialist ice rink consultant - from the very first idea through construction and commissioning.

What makes our approach different is that we go beyond advice. We design, supply and build the ice rink systems we engineer ourselves. This means our consultancy is always practical, realistic and focused on performance, cost certainty and long-term operation.

Feasibility & viability studies

Every successful ice rink project starts with a clear understanding of what is possible. In this phase, we assess whether an ice rink concept is technically, commercially and operationally viable within the project constraints.

We look at the site, local climate and available utilities, and advise on the most suitable type of ice rink. Energy demand, investment costs and expected operating costs are analysed, while potential risks are identified early on.

Outcome: a clear, data-driven go/no-go decision that provides confidence before moving forward.

Technical design & engineering (Concept to IFC)

Ice-World provides complete technical design, from early sketches to detailed “Issue for Construction” (IFC) documentation.

We guide the project through all design stages, covering ice slab and piping design, refrigeration systems, interfaces with mechanical and electrical installations, and compliance with safety standards and local regulations. Everything is coordinated to avoid clashes and surprises during construction.

Outcome: fully coordinated IFC drawings for the main contractor to use

Energy performance & sustainability analysis

Energy efficiency plays a major role in the long-term success of an ice rink, especially in warmer climates. During this phase, we optimize systems to reduce energy consumption and improve sustainability.

This includes energy modelling, load calculations, smart heat recovery solutions and the selection of efficient, future-proof refrigerants. The goal is to balance performance, sustainability and operational reliability.

Outcome: lower lifecycle costs and improved ESG performance without compromising ice quality.

Cost engineering & value optimisation

Cost control is integrated into our designs from the start. Rather than adjusting budgets afterwards, we continuously align design choices with financial targets.

We provide cost estimates at each design stage and explore value engineering options that maintain performance and quality. Lifecycle cost comparisons help clients make informed, long-term decisions.

Outcome: cost certainty without technical shortcuts.

Tendering & procurement support

During procurement, clarity and technical accuracy are essential. As an independent ice rink specialist, we support a transparent and well-structured tender process.

Our role includes preparing technical specifications, supporting tender documentation, answering clarifications and evaluating bids on technical performance — not just price.

Outcome: reduced risk during procurement and construction.

Project management & engineering support

Our involvement continues during execution to ensure the ice rink is delivered exactly as designed.

We provide technical supervision, manage interfaces between contractors and consultants, support factory and site acceptance testing, and assist during commissioning and handover. This safeguards both performance and quality.

Outcome: a fully operational ice rink that performs as intended from day one.

One partner – from concept to operation

Unlike traditional consultants, Ice-World also supplies and constructs the ice rink systems. This integrated approach eliminates gaps between design and execution and results in:

  • Proven, buildable designs
  • Accurate cost forecasting
  • Faster decision-making
  • Long-term operational reliability

Turnkey delivery, from design to installation

We design and supply as per client requirements. Our experts are always available with technical and operational advice to ensure a 100% ice experience.

Design and supply as per client requirements

We support our clients along the route to a succesful skating event, supporting them with tailored advice and excellent service.

Tailor made solutions

We provide advice for the organisation of temporary ice events and permanent ice skating rinks, based on your specific wishes.

The support and maintenance by Ice-World during the event's four-months were absolutely satisfactory.
