Sport and entertainment in New Zealand and Australia
An ice hockey tour of Australia and New Zealand has taken place each summer since 2011. In cities including Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland, NHL and AHL players participate in a show that attracts over ten thousand people for each game: the Ice Hockey Classic Tour. In under two weeks, games take place between iconic American and Canadian star teams.
A perfect hockey rink up in three days’ time
Five professionals work around the clock in shifts to deliver a fully-fledged hockey rink at each stadium in just three days’ time. After installation of the refrigeration elements, the initial layer of ice is formed on the first day (evening). Then the rink is turned white using vinyl mesh fabric. The hockey rink is not painted, so that water isn’t contaminated when the rink thaws. Coloured marker lines are put in place and the second layer of ice formed. Over the next two days, the temperature and thickness of the ice are perfected to create a top layer meeting the strict quality requirements of the organisation and the ice hockey players.
Even in projects like this, where quantity and scheduling are incredibly important, Ice-World always makes sure that quality and experience aren’t sacrificed. They do this not just by delivering a great product, but also by continuing to keep an eye on and help provide solutions for the event on the day itself. And that’s why Ice-World is one of the leading global suppliers of ice skating rinks.

Funding
Events agency TEG Live, marketing agency TLA Worldwide and non-profit organisation StopConcussions are partners in this event. That’s because ice hockey as a sport entails risks that include concussions and neurotrauma. For the organisers it was a priority to raise more awareness among the audience, without putting the event’s entertainment value in jeopardy.
Flexibility
The organisation’s key challenge during the ice hockey tour is the fact that the games take place in different stadiums. Adding transport of the hockey rink sections between the various cities makes for a logistics project of huge proportions.
What it means is that the hockey rink has to be set up and broken back down at various locations and in an incredibly short span of time. The Ice-World system meets this requirement.
Reliability and efficiency
In Ice-World, TEG Live, TLA Worldwide and StopConcussions found a partner to successfully pull off this project every year. Ice-World has no problem when it comes to adapting to the project’s complex schedule.
