After the Olympics, the World Cup is the second largest shorttrack event in the world. How cool is it that the ice rink during this World Cup is made by us and togehter with our partners we aim to create the most sustainable temporary ice rink on which a world championship has ever been held.

Sold out Ahoy

The KNSB has been working with TIG Sports for the organization of international shorttrack competitions in the Netherlands for many years. Professionalization of these events in recent years has gone hand in hand with the sporting development of TeamNL. This of course includes the very best ice rink. The 2017 World Cup in a sold-out Ahoy was already more than successful. In 2024 we will do it all over again. Ice-World’s knowledge, experience and expertise will ensure an ice surface that provides the best performance under all conditions.

CEO of Ice-World is Steven Bottema. He can’t help but be super proud of supplying and building the ice floor for a World Cup. “The fact that the organization came back to us after 2017 says a lot about the quality we deliver. We have been working incredibly hard with our entire team for years to bring in events like the Shorttrack World Cup. Shorttrack is a fantastic, dynamic sport and the performance of the Dutch in recent years has been fantastic. In addition to all the ice rinks we build worldwide, this is the icing on the cake. We’re all going to enjoy it.”

Sustainable temporary ice skating rink

The Dutch Lottery ISU World Shorttrack Championship 2024 presented by Odido aims to create the most sustainable temporary ice rink on which a world championship has ever been held. This is the result of cooperation between several partners who are committed to making the sport of skating more sustainable. Ice-World contributes to this by using the heat from the chiller to melt the shaved ice. This melting water is then heated to make it suitable for the zamboni mop machine. This first scrapes a layer of ice off the rink and then sprays a thin layer of warm water on it for use in applying to the ice. So we reuse the heat coming off the chiller and we reuse the water.
