The mobile ice rinks of supplier and market leader Ice-World are chilled by using renewable electricity. To achieve this, Ice-World  purchases 3 gigawatts of electricity every year from Dutch wind turbines. This amount of power is the equivalent of energy which our ice rinks use world wide.

Patented technology

A study by TNO and its German counterpart TÜV reveals that Ice-World rinks are up to 40 percent more economical in terms of energy consumption than traditional ice rinks that use either rubber or polyethylene.
This is possible thanks to the patented system whereby the ice surface is frozen by aluminium tubes. This metal is a better conductor, which means that less energy is necessary. Furthermore, the tubes lie in the water, so less energy leaches away via the cold floor. For chilling, Ice-World uses the more expensive but also more environmentally friendly polypropylene glycol, which is almost 100% re-used. Furthermore, Ice-World dealers regularly attend courses in the Netherlands, not only to prepare the ice optimally, but also to maintain the ice rink in the most energy-efficient manner possible. For instance, by switching off the chiller when temperatures are freezing or - in hotter countries - by covering the ice surface at night so that the chiller can usually often be switched off then too.
