Ice-World skating rink in New YorkNovember 2009 saw the grand opening of the first Ice-World ice rink in New York. In the famous Battery Park the energy-efficient aluminium ice rink of a good 1500 m² drew in huge numbers of people. Everybody - from officials to local residents - was keen to talk about how the ice rink had improved the district.
"Lower Manhattan hadn't got a skating rink yet. The field was used for sports in spring, summer and autumn. But in winter there was no use for it. So this year we thought: why don't we try an ice rink. And so far it has been a success", Battery Park City Authority President Jim Cavanaugh said during the official inauguration that took place once the ice rink had been operating for a couple of weeks.
This ice rink, which will be operated by Rink Management, the Ice-World dealer in America, over the next six years from November to February inclusive, makes a lot of happy skaters in Battery Park and the surrounding area. There is a lot to do on the ice in Manhattan: ice hockey clinics, company parties, children's parties and skating lessons for schools are just a few examples of the range of activities.
Next year the rink will be expanded with the Ice-World ‘FunTrack', an ice track 100 metres long and three metres wide connected to the ice rink in order to provide even more amusement.
