For the fourth winter our foundation organised a roofed ice rink event on the Julianasquare in the city centre. Each year we learn a lot of new things. In the meanwhile the ice rink became a yearly tradition in Den Helder thanks to the city council and our loyal sponsors. Den Helder is a very windy and rainy city in North-Holland. Therefore, we choose for a covered ice rink and a separate café in a marquee, where the event was taking place during four weeks.
In the past Ice-World supplied us with the EPDM rubber system, which had the well-known EPDM problems such as leaks when skates go through the ice and a wet surface when the weather becomes to warm or windy. This year we were surprised by the new aluminium skating rink, a great relief. The ice quality is much better end even at the busiest times we had no problems with the ice. We didn’t see any water on the ice. The energy costs were 15% lower than last year. In the next season we will have an ice rink from Ice-World again.
