Skating all year round in Punta Arenas, Chile

The tax-free zone of Punta Arenas, Chile in the southernmost tip of the American continent is all the richer for an Ice-World indoor ice rink, thanks to the initiative of the council and the investment of the zonAustral company.
From the very beginning this ice rink in a shopping mall was the talk of the town, as skating on the lagoons around the city is not really possible any more due to global warming. And if there ever is any ice on them, it doesn't last for long.

"The indoor ice rink means people can skate the whole year round and we encourage schools to include skating in their curriculum. We also have teachers who give skating lessons so that even more people can discover the pleasures of skating", says Ivan Alcaino, General Manager of zonAustral.
"In addition we are going to organise many more activities on and round the ice rink, such as an ice circus and many other shows, the ice rink provides a perfect platform for them".
That this attraction is now a success is displayed by the number of visitors: every day around 500 enthusiastic skaters take to the ice.
