Skating on green power
As of 1 November, people on all continents will be able to skate thanks to Dutch wind power. A couple of wind turbines work for a full year to provide the energy for all of our ice rinks. You often hear claims that artificial ice rinks are gas guzzlers, but we try to do everything in a sustainable manner. Doubts have also been expressed regarding whether our portable rinks really are up to 40 percent more economical than others. That's why we had TNO and TÜV carry out tests and calculations. A study by TNO and its German counterpart TÜV reveals that Ice-World rinks are up to 40 percent more economical in terms of energy consumption than traditional ice rinks that use either rubber or polyethylene. The mobile ice rink is more popular than ever, and the number of rentals is increasing every year. Although most rinks are situated in European countries, there is also interest outside that continent. For instance, we build artificial ice rinks in Mexico, Japan and America via our local dealers. Those rinks too are chilled using green electricity.

Skating-loving Netherlands can enjoy the pleasure of skating along reedy borders, through the flat countryside and among forested groves. For at least one hundred days, guaranteed, frost or no frost. Because right now Ice-World is building a 5 kilometre ice rink for FlevonIce in Biddinghuizen, with more than 30,000 m2 of ice! A project that is unique in the world. Never before has a mobile ice rink of such size been constructed in the middle of, and right across, the open countryside. When it comes to mobile ice skating rinks, Ice-World possesses a wealth of know-how, expertise and experience. They have succeeded in building up a sound reputation for themselves both in The Netherlands as well as abroad. That is why FlevOnice chose Ice-World. Nothing about this rink is standard. Each part of the ice rink has been specifically designed for FlevOnice and it is all being completely tailor-made at Ice-World. FlevOnice offers not only professional skaters, but also people skating for leisure or as a hobby, enough space and opportunity for intensive hours of training or just a nice day out.

During the winter months of 2006/2007, the International University of Breda carried out a study, commissioned by Ice-World, of the spending behaviour of visitors of ice rinks in 4 different countries (The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom). And the results showed: on an average, the presence of a mobile ice rink in a city results in an additional EUR 1.4 million being spent. An average of 50,000 people visited the ice rink. They each spent between EUR 21 and 35. Shopkeepers and hotels, restaurants and cafes in the vicinity of the ice rink are also very enthusiastic and are certainly in favour of the yearly return of the ice rink. A good reason, therefore, for municipalities to support initiatives for a mobile ice rink. |
